Solidworks installation instructions for Middlesex University Students

Solidworks is available to current students of the Faculty of Science and Technology at Middlesex university University.

Student license requires a VPN connection

The student license is only available through a licensing server on-campus which required a VPN connection that creates a secure connection between your computer and the University network

The need for VPN is to confirm you are a current Middlesex University student.

Prerequisites for Solidworks

Follow the steps below to get your comptuer ready for Solidworks

Step 1: Install Cisco VPN software

Use Internet explorer to visit the Cisco Anyconnect VPN download page at https://vpn.mdx.ac.uk
Login using your Middlesex University Account and password
Download and install Cisco AnyConnect and connect to the profile: vpn.mdx.ac.uk

Step 2: Disable Anti-Virus Software

Temporarily disable your Anti-Virus software unless you are running one of the Solidworks Supported Anti-Virus software .

Question: Do you recommend turning off anti-virus scanning when installing SolidWorks?

Answer: Certain anti-virus (AV) applications do not allow system resources to be updated if they are in use. The other issue with having the AV on during installation is performance-related. With that said, most users cannot turn off their AV software due to corporate IT policy. If you are using one of the recommended AV programs, you should not experience issues installing SolidWorks.

Please note that Solidworks 2015 is the last version available for 32bit Windows.

Solidworks 2016 onwards only supports 64bit Windows

64bit Download of Solidworks 2019 SP4 for PCs running the 64 bit version of Windows

Download 64bit Windows only - Solidworks 2019 SP4

32bit Download of Solidworks 2014 for PCs running the 32 bit version of Windows

Only if you don't have 32bit Windows then you'll need to download the older Solidworks 2014 (32bit version) downloader: Solidworks 2014 SP5 for 32bit Windows

How to Activate Solidworks for Middlesex University

Provide this serial number and License Server details during install:

You need to be either on Campus or connected via the VPN client (available at https://vpn.mdx.ac.uk)

Then in the software type
